Indonesia likely at Baliyatra next year

CUTTACK: To share the rich maritime trade history between the erstwhile Kalinga (modern-day Odisha) and Bali, Indonesia is looking to put up a stall at Baliyatra from next year, officials said on Saturday.In a bid to take this further, the Cuttack district administration has already demarcated a plot of land at the fair ground for Indonesia to offer the visitors a glimpse into the countless journeys that Odia sailors undertook from Kalinga to Bali. Apart from displaying several photographs from the past, the stall will also witness cultural exchanges between Kalinga (today’s Odisha) and Bali.Thousands of people thronged to the week-long Baliyatra, which started on Friday and has been stretched to 10 days this year.Agus Indra Udayana, a Gandhian from Indonesia, said, “People from my country are looking forward to setting up a stall and we have learned that land has already been earmarked for it.” Replica of Indonesian folk dance will also be displayed in the stall.
