Wanted criminal brought from Andhra Pradesh

CUTTACK: Police brought wanted criminal Mohammed Sakil, 26, to the city on Monday. Initially, he used to collect extortion money from shopkeepers but soon he started targeting businessmen in the city. DCP Sanjeev Arora said Sakil is a notorious criminal and has over two dozen cases pending against him in different police stations across the state.Police said Sakil started his criminal activities seven years ago. Sakil was arrested from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh . Sakil had attacked Jalil when he was returning home after dropping his children in school in Cantonment area.

DCP Sanjeev Arora said Sakil is a notorious criminal and has over two dozen cases pending against him in different police stations across the state.Police said Sakil started his criminal activities seven years ago. Initially, he used to collect extortion money from shopkeepers but soon he started targeting businessmen in the city. Apart from extortion, loot, dacoity and attempt to murder cases are also lodged against Sakil.On March 27, Sakil had allegedly opened fire on a businessman Sayed Jalil, who had refused to pay extortion money to him. Sakil had attacked Jalil when he was returning home after dropping his children in school in Cantonment area. Jalil had sustained four bullet injuries in the accident. After the incident, Sakil had fled from Cuttack and was hiding in different states.Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided Sakil's hideout and nabbed him. Along with Sakil, two more criminals Wasim Akram and Sheikh Sona, who were staying with him, have also been arrested . A country-made pistol and two rounds of live bullets have been seized from him. "Sakil is a major catch for us. He was targeting traders and businessmen in the city," said a senior police officer.
