Tribal art and craft have always been the centre of attraction because of their vast creativity that signifies the richness that constitutes the tribal art and tradition. Presently, Delhi is experiencing the euphoria of tribal art, craft, music and food. You have guessed it right. We are talking of the Aadi Mahotsav, organised by the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd., (TRIFED).

Tribal art and craft have always been the centre of attraction because of their vast creativity that signifies the richness that constitutes the tribal art and tradition. Each tribe has its own culture, heritage, art, even music and dance. Tribals are born creative people. They may not have any formal education but have an edge over their urban counterparts who need inspiration for creativity. The crudest tribal handicraft instantly touches a primal instinct in all of
us. This is particularly true of tribal music and dance.

The tribes constitute over eight per cent of India`s population. This is a very significant number. The national object of inclusive development (sabka vikas) includes the development of tribes in all perspectives. Presently, Delhi is experiencing the euphoria of tribal art, craft, music and food. You have guessed it right. We are talking of the Aadi Mahotsav, organised by Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd., (TRIFED).

Like all of us, the tribes too now need cash for sundry purposes. It is therefore important that their natural skills must
be channelled to promote their sources of income. It is for this reason that the Government seeks to promote interaction between the tribal artisans and the mainstream designers from reputed design organizations. The idea is to expand the product range and designs. The synergy between these two can generate marketable products of art and handicraft for the top-end global market.

As the name of this event Aadi Mahotsav suggests, it is the ‘Adi’ factor that is important about them. The Adivasi way of life is guided by primal truths, eternal values and natural simplicity. The significance of such festivals is to encourage and give tribals a platform to showcase their creativity. Not just the handcrafts or art forms but tribals can simply mesmerise with their music and dance.

Over 100 tribal artisans and artists from different States are participating in the Aadi Mahotsav having the theme: A Celebration of the Spirit of Tribal Culture, Craft, Cuisine, and Commerce will feature exhibition-cum-sale of tribal handicrafts, art, paintings, fabric, jewellery and much more through 39 stalls. The Tribal handicrafts would be sold through 30 Stalls under the Tribes Banner by tribal Artisans.

TRIFED is doing significant work in this direction and has now embraced e-commerce and digital platforms to take the business forward. In order to cashless, for the first time, the tribal artisans will be accepting payment through major credit/debit cards for which Point of Sale (POS) machines have been provided in each stall. Special training has been conducted by State Bank of India for smooth operations of this. The Mahotsav will display the rich digital commerce and e-commerce being promoted by Tribes India.

Adding another big feather in the cap of the TRIFED, it has helped these artisans to get the money they deserve for their creativity by signing a MOUs with Amazon, Snapdeal, Flipkart, PayTM and GEM, a Government of India Portal for e-commerce. Earlier, these poor artisans were deprived of the deserved recognition as the credit and money were taken by middlemen.

Besides TRIBES India also has its own e-com portal www.tribesindia.com The Aadi Mahotsav is an effort to take tribal commerce to the next level of digital and electronic transactions.

The festival is being held at GPRA Complex, near Kendriya Bhandar, New Delhi and shall be on till January 30th. So, don`t miss the euphoria of experiencing tribal art, craft, music, dance, and food.
