HC asks Police Commissioner to treat as representation plea for removal of unnecessary barricades

New Delhi, May 17 (PTI) The Delhi High Court has asked the Delhi Police Commissioner to treat as a representation a plea seeking to remove “unnecessary and hazardous” barricading from roads of the national capital as it causes inconvenience to the citizens.A bench of Justices Manmohan and Dinesh Kumar Sharma said the commissioner is directed to issue appropriate directions or instructions so that the guidelines issued by the police for the usage of mobile barricades are implemented in true letter and spirit.The court disposed of a petition by Jan Sewa Welfare Society, through Ajay Aggarwal, which sought direction to the Delhi Police for strict compliance with its standing order of 2018 – The Delhi Police on Procurement, Maintenance and Operational Usage of Mobile Barricades” for removal of unnecessary and hazardous barricading from roads of all over Delhi causing grave inconvenience to citizens and for the safety and welfare of the public at large.The organisation said it has witnessed the “menace of unmindful and erratic installation of mobile police barricades” on Delhi roads and in residential colonies in utter violation of Delhi Police’s guidelines.“Since the petitioner is only seeking implementation of the aforesaid Standing Order, this court directs the present writ petition to be treated as a representation to the Commissioner of Police, who, in turn, is directed to issue appropriate directions/instructions so that the aforesaid guideline is implemented in true letter and spirit,” the bench said.
