Gupta raps Kejriwal conduct in excise policy scam

  • | Tuesday | 2nd April, 2024

Delhi former Leader of Opposition and MLA Vijender Gupta raised serious concerns in the Assembly over the conduct of Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding the ongoing investigation into the excise policy scam. Gupta highlighted the Enforcement Directorates observation that Kejriwal has been evasive and non-cooperative in the investigation process. Gupta stated that the matter is currently under judicial scrutiny, rendering any discussions on the arrest of Kejriwal and speculative talks of the imposition of Presidents rule in Delhi as unnecessary and misleading. He emphasised that the judiciarys active engagement in the matter signifies the importance of letting the legal process unfold without undue interference or pressure from political entities. He reminded the House of repeated allegations made by AAP members regarding offers made to AAP MLAs to break away from the party, yet no formal complaints have been lodged to date.  Gupta accused the AAP of exploiting the privileges and sanctity of the House to mislead the public. Referencing the excise policy formulated in June 2021 and implemented by November of the same year, Gupta pointed out the hurried rollback of the policy once corruption was exposed.
