Atishi: EC not addressing party grievances regarding objectionable BJP hoardings

  • | Monday | 8th April, 2024

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged that the Election Commission (EC) has not addressed the grievances raised by the party regarding the objectionable hoardings placed by the BJP throughout the city while calling it a display of apparent bias on Sunday. Despite multiple complaints lodged by the AAP, the Election Commission has remained inert, refraining from taking any decisive action against the contentious displays, the party said, adding that 48 hours have passed since the initial complaint in the matter was filed before the EC. The absence of any summons or notices directed towards the BJP further exacerbates concerns surrounding the Commissions impartiality, the party claimed. Senior AAP leader and Delhi Minister Atishi, while expressing her disappointment on the matter on X (formerly Twitter) said, 48 hours have passed since the AAP filed a complaint with Election Commission of India against BJPs objectionable hoardings, across Delhi. Till now no notice has been issued by the Election Commission to BJP so far. Will the Election Commission only send notices to opposition parties? Meanwhile, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said, World over we see that the people who are losing in a game raise suspicion on the conduct of the umpires in the game and this is what Atishi is doing today in India. He added that it is shocking that AAP Minister Atishi who has pledged to the constitution is tarnishing the image of an constitutional body Election Commission of India for petty political motives. According to the AAP, the saffron party has put up objectionable hoardings across Delhi and subsequently they filed a complaint in the matter to ECI. They claim that the election body has neither taken any action on this matter nor issued any notice to the BJP. In contrast, senior AAP leader Atishi was served notice by the EC within just 12 hours after the BJP filed a complaint, whereas news of Atishi receiving the notice from the EC had already circulated in the media half an hour before she received it, they remarked.
