In a bid to promote both creative learning and community well-being, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Friday launched two major initiatives — a summer art workshop for Navyug  school students in Sarojini Nagar and a health check-up camp for residents of JJ cluster at Sanjay camp . The 10-day summer art workshop, titled Viksit Bharat Summer Art Workshop: Discover, Create, and Evolve Through Art, was inaugurated at Navyug School in Sarojini Nagar. Scheduled from May 16 to May 25, the workshop is based on the theme of Panchatantra stories and is open to students from classes 5 to 11. It will feature sessions with 14 Padma Shri awardees and senior artists from across the country. Speaking at the inauguration, NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal said that the initiative is part of NDMCs commitment to fostering creativity and national pride among school students. We have brought together renowned artists from across India so students can learn about different art forms and cultural traditions. This experience will help them grow creatively while also connecting with the countrys artistic heritage, Chahal said. He emphasised the role of art as a universal language and said that the workshop also includes a segment on Operation Sindoor, highlighting the strength and bravery of modern India. Chahal added that the success of the mission is an important example of Indias growing stature and resilience. During the event, students who achieved 99 and 100 per cent marks in the recent CBSE board exams were also felicitated. Chahal announced that an art gallery would soon be constructed on the school premises to encourage and preserve student artwork. NDMC Advisor (Culture) Harshvardhan described art as a world of colors that enriches the soul and relieves stress, especially for children. Director of Education Kritika Chaudhary added that the workshop will include interactive sessions, group projects, art appreciation, and a final exhibition. A total of 120 students from ten NDMC schools will participate. Among the participating artists are Padma Shri awardees Bhajju Shyam, Adwaita Gadnayak, Biman B Das and Jai Prakash, along with other senior artists from across the country. Meanwhile, in another effort to uplift the quality of life in underprivileged communities, NDMC organized a free health check-up camp at Sanjay Camp in Chanakyapuri. The camp was set up in collaboration with Max Hospital, Saket, to provide preventive healthcare services to residents of JJ clusters. Chahal, who also inaugurated the health camp, said the goal was to bring essential healthcare services to the doorsteps of those who often do not have easy access. The focus is on early detection of health issues and providing care to the most vulnerable – especially women, children, and the elderly, he said. Director (Welfare) Anjum Siddiqui said a team of 15 doctors and paramedical staff conducted a variety of tests including pulmonary function tests (PFT), eye and ENT check-ups. Around 170 residents, including 80 men, 65 women, and 25 children, benefitted from the camp.
