One killed, 7 hurt in SUV-Van collision

GHAZIABAD: A man died while seven others sustained injuries after a van and an SUV collided head-on in Muradnagar area on Thursday.According to the police, the accident took place around 9.30am on the eastern peripheral road near Duhai, which is yet to be opened for public.The deceased has been identified as Leelu Tyagi, who was the driver of the van which was travelling from Farukh Nagar (Ator Nagla) to Pilkhuwa. Tyagi had suffered multiple fractures on his legs and was put on the ventilator after being admitted to Yashoda Hospital for treatment. Later he succumbed to his injuries.The other passengers in the van were Rakesh Gupta, his wife Poonam and son Akash. They were also brought to Yashoda hospital with multiple fractures.Sunny Jain, a family friend of the Guptas, informed that all three underwent surgeries and recuperating at the intensive care unit of the hospital.In the SUV, Jai Prakash, a head constable posted at Muzaffarnagar , was travelling with three of his relatives and friends, Rambhul, Satendra and Ravinder, from his native place in Greater Noida to Muzaffarnagar. All the four also suffered injuries and were admitted to District Combined Hospital in Sanjay Nagar. However, they are said to be out of danger.SHO (Muradnagar) Ranveer Singh said, “Both the vehicles were driving on the same side of the road. As the road is not open for public use, both the sides were at fault. However, on the complaint of the family of the deceased, an FIR has been registered for rash driving and causing death due to negligence.”
