GHAZIABAD: A 14-year-old boy who had gone missing from his home in Modinagar’s Bhupendra Puri area on Thursday afternoon was found dead with his throat slit in a sugarcane field in Muradnagar on Friday morning. Police have detained a woman in connection with Priyanshu’s death, sources said.As the news of the boy’s death spread, enraged locals and relatives blocked the highway in front of Modinagar police station for over an hour, alleging negligence on part of the cops in tracing him. The roadblock, which led to a three-kilometre jam on both sides of the road, was removed only after senior police officers, including circle officer (Modinagar) Dharmendra Chauhan, reached the spot and pacified the protesters. The class VIII student’s father Naresh Kumar had lodged a missing person’s complaint on Thursday evening itself. Accusing the police of not making any efforts to trace Priyanshu, he said, “Had the police acted on time, my son’s life could have been saved,” he said.Sources told TOI a woman has been detained by police for questioning in connection with Priyanshu’s death. Cops also spoke to four boys, aged between nine and 14 years, with whom Priyanshu had a fight on Thursday afternoon during a game of cricket in the neighbourhood.Sources said the police suspect the role of few adults in the murder. “Given the manner in which boy was found murdered, it is most unlikely that the minor boys committed the crime themselves,” they added.According to Akash, Priyanshu’s elder brother, around five to six boys had come to their house on Thursday afternoon carrying wooden sticks and a cycle chain with them to beat Priyanshu.“They were looking for Priyanshu and told us they wanted to beat him up. My mother, who was present at home, scolded the boys and asked them to go back. A few hours later, my brother went missing,” he said. When contacted, SHO of Modinagar police stattion, Gajendra Pal Singh, said, “The IPC section of murder has been added to the FIR. No arrest has been made in the case so far. We are investigating the case from all angles and trying to ascertain whether the boy's family had animosity with anyone.”
