GHAZIABAD: The GDA is planning to develop a cattle colony in the city to tackle the problem of stray cattle roaming the city streets. “This will also help us clamp down on illegal dairy farms that are operating in the city in an unorganised manner posing serious challenges of sanitation and congestion,” said Rai. The court in March 2018 had asked all development agencies to act on it and in response to this the state government planned to develop cattle colonies in the every district. The cattle colony will have all amenities such as dairy farms. It will also have provisions for cattle feed, sheds and milk collection centres among others. A committee of four members has been set up to scout for 25 acres of land, preferably in the city’s outskirts, to set up the colony, a first of its kind in the state.

GHAZIABAD: The GDA is planning to develop a cattle colony in the city to tackle the problem of stray cattle roaming the city streets. A committee of four members has been set up to scout for 25 acres of land, preferably in the city’s outskirts, to set up the colony, a first of its kind in the state. GDA also feels this move will put an end to illegal dairy farms that have sprung up all across the city.“In a recently held meeting of all development agencies, the principal secretary (housing) laid stress on developing cattle colonies in every district to help cities remove stray animals and illegal dairy farms,” said Santosh Rai, GDA secretary. “We have constituted a 4-member committee, including ADM (land acquisition), additional municipal commissioner and GDA’s two OSDs who have been instructed to scout for 25 acres of land that will be required to set up the colony.”The genesis of cattle colony could be traced to a PIL filed in Allahabad HC over stray animals. The court in March 2018 had asked all development agencies to act on it and in response to this the state government planned to develop cattle colonies in the every district. The cattle colony will have all amenities such as dairy farms. It will also have provisions for cattle feed, sheds and milk collection centres among others. “This will also help us clamp down on illegal dairy farms that are operating in the city in an unorganised manner posing serious challenges of sanitation and congestion,” said Rai.
