GHAZIABAD: An undertrial prisoner escaped from the district court on Wednesday, where he had been brought for a hearing, after giving the slip to police. The undertrial, Sunny (25), is accused of committing a murder in June 2011 in Ghaziabad.The escape took place a little after 1 pm on the district court premises. Sunny was accompanied to the court by a constable, Satish. According to sources, Sunny escaped with the help of a man on a motorbike who was waiting for him near an exit of the court premises that opens into the commercial hub of Rajnagar District Centre. The undertrial was presented in the court of additional district judge (I) at around 1 pm.“Sunny was ordered to appear again for his testimony at 3 pm following lunch. He walked out of the court room along with the constable. A little distance ahead, he asked the constable to be taken to the chamber of his lawyer for a discussion. On reaching the chamber, he asked the constable for his mobile phone in order to call his lawyer who was not in his seat. He gave a missed call to some number on the mobile phone. Soon, a bike-borne man reached the exit of the court premises and he escaped riding pillion on the motorcycle. He also took away the mobile phone of the constable with him,” said a policeman.Following the escape, the police have seized CCTV footage in which Sunny, with a white hand towel covering his head, is seen walking casually ahead of the constable outside the court premises.An FIR has been registered at Kavi Nagar police station under Section 224 of IPC against Sunny and constable Satish. “The constable has been sent to judicial custody by a local court where he was presented after the registration of the FIR. He has been suspended with immediate effect. There seems to be laxity on his part. Also, we are probing whether the constable was hand-in-glove with the accused and allowed him to escape. CCTV footage show the constable hadn’t tied up the hands of the accused outside the court building,” SSP Vaibhav Krishna told TOI. Sunny, who is from Bamheta in Ghaziabad, was arrested in 2013. He is the main accused in the murder of one Mahesh Yadav alias Bichhoo Pehelwan, who was shot dead outside his house on June 3, 2011.
