2 days after man dies of burn injuries, father blames in-laws

GHAZIABAD: The father of a 35-year-old man, who died two days ago after suffering 95% burn injuries, has accused his daughter-in-law and her family of setting his son on fire by pouring kerosene on him. Narendra was first taken to MMG District Hospital and then to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi where he succumbed to his injuries,” he said. Over the years, the couple had three children, but of late their relationship had soured,” Jagpal said. Soon after the marriage, he shifted to his own house in Nandgram and had been living there.

GHAZIABAD: The father of a 35-year-old man, who died two days ago after suffering 95% burn injuries, has accused his daughter-in-law and her family of setting his son on fire by pouring kerosene on him. As per the statement given to police by the victim’s father, Jagpal, his son Narendra got married 11 years ago without the approval of the woman’s parents and he did not share a cordial relationship with them.“Ever since the marriage, my son was facing threats from his in-laws. Soon after the marriage, he shifted to his own house in Nandgram and had been living there. Over the years, the couple had three children, but of late their relationship had soured,” Jagpal said. “For the past many days, Renu was living with her parents in Ghukna and on their instance came to my house in Modinagar on July 10 and demanded a divorce from Narendra. She also asked us to give her Rs 2 lakh and threatened to embroil us in false cases if we refused,” Jagpal added.Based on this complaint, police have registered an FIR under Section 302 (murder) of IPC against the six accused on Wednesday at 9.20 pm. The accused have been identified as Renu, Narendra’s wife, his father-in-law Kanhaiya Lal, his mother-in-law and brothers-in-law Pradeep, Kapil and Neeraj.Narrating the sequence of events on the fateful day, Jagpal claimed that his son had gone to Renu’s house on July 17 to bring her back, but there her father and other accused poured kerosene and set him on fire. “Later they called the police control room and told Narendra set himself on fire. I was informed about the incident at 11.50 pm. Narendra was first taken to MMG District Hospital and then to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi where he succumbed to his injuries,” he said. No one from Renu’s family came to meet them and express condolence after Narendra’s death.
