GHAZIABAD: Two men who allegedly chased and thrashed a Muslim man for planning to marry a Hindu friend last week have sought to surrender in a Ghaziabad court The accused, Vinod and Navneet Chaudhary, were among six men who had chased the couple and beaten up the Muslim man outside the marriage registrar’s office where he had come with his friend to marry her on July 24. They have submitted their surrender applications to the court of the chief judicial magistrate of Ghaziabad, despite skipping the first hearing of the case on Saturday.Police said both men had been identified from a 30-second video clip of the July 24 attack. They have been slapped charges under sections 323 (assault), 147 (rioting) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC.“These two men are not linked to any right-wing organisation. It seems they had prior knowledge of the proposed inter-faith marriage. We are trying to identify the others involved in the attack from the video. Prima facie, the attack does not seem to have been orchestrated by any right-wing group,” said Sanjay Pandey, the SHO of Sihani Gate police station.The man and his woman friend have been staying in their hometowns — Bhopal and Bijnore, respectively — following the attack.
