GHAZIABAD: A portion of the CISF road in Indirapuram has been flooded with sewage overflowing from a drain for the past four days. The stretch has several highrises and a police outpost lining it.“The other day, I was passing this stretch on my bike, taking all caution to avoid a splash. But despite everything, I ended up having drain water sprayed all over my body and face when a car passed me,” said Ashish Kumar, who lives in Supertech Apartment in Indirapuram. “The odour would not go, no matter how many showers I took,” he added.Policemen posted at the outpost nearby are also at the receiving end. “The sight of knee-deep sewage water greets you as soon as you step out of the police outpost,” said a policeman at Kanwani police post. “We’ve to park our vehicles quite far and then walk as the entire area is covered with drain water. The stink is unbearable,” he added.GDA executive engineer Manvendra Singh said the water overflowed from a sewage treatment plant nearby. “The STP has a capacity to treat 56MLD of waste water, but it overflows when we receive huge quantity of sewage, which finds its way into drains and eventually spills on to the roads,” said Singh. “We have hired an agency to fix the problems. It will be done in two months.”
