Retired clerk steals murder case file, sells it to lawyer

GHAZIABAD: Four days after the retirement of a clerk associated with the court of an additional district judge (ADJ), he was arrested for stealing a murder case file . The clerk allegedly sold it to the lawyer of the accused for a paltry sum of Rs 20,000. The case pertains to the murder of a man in 1996 in Hapur, which then used to be a part of Ghaziabad.The former clerk has been identified as Tarachand, a resident of Vivekanand Nagar. ”The police are yet to recover the file and it is now being suspected that it was destroyed soon after it was stolen from the court. The concerned court officials then scanned all the footage of the CCTV camera from August 1-31 where they found that on August 11 Tarachand went to the room where the file was kept and stole it.

The reader of the ADJ Subhash Chand Arora filed a complaint against Tarachand at Kavi Nagar police station and an FIR was subsequently registered against him under Section 379 ( theft ) of the IPC.The matter came to light on September 1 after the file could not be located. The concerned court officials then scanned all the footage of the CCTV camera from August 1-31 where they found that on August 11 Tarachand went to the room where the file was kept and stole it. A police official said, “The case was scheduled for a hearing on August 9, but due to the lawyers’ strike going on at that time, the next date of hearing was fixed for August 17. ”The police are yet to recover the file and it is now being suspected that it was destroyed soon after it was stolen from the court.
