GHAZIABAD: Ever since the deer installations were stolen a week ago from Meerut tri-section by bike-borne robbers, Raj Kumar, the sculptor who made the installations is a worried man. He visits the GDA office almost every day for the due payment.“Ever since I heard about the theft of the installations I have been worried about the payment. The GDA owes me Rs 85,000 for three fibreglass deer sculptures that they commissioned and installed at a park near Meerut tri-section,” stated Kumar. “The payment procedure was underway by the GDA when the theft took place. The officials tell me that I will receive the payment shortly, but the manner they are talking to me in doesn’t make me think this will be easy. The two adult deer cost me Rs 35,000 each while the fawn cost Rs 15,000,” explained Kumar, adding that it took him two months to complete the work. The GDA officials privately admit that the theft has really complicated the situation and it could have bearing on the payment. “To process files, even in a normal situation, we need to fulfil certain formalities and paperwork and here we have a situation where payment has to be made for something which is no more in our possession so it will take time before it is approved, ” said VN Singh, chief engineer.Kumar, however, an owner of a small business is in need of the payment urgently. “These days business is not so good and I have already invested a lot of money in it. If I don’t get money on time it will affect my business in a major way,” said Raj Kumar. “I had delivered the product to GDA and what happens to it is not my concern so I think the theft should not be a reason to hold my payment,” Kumar reasoned.
