Over 1,100 autos, 28 illegal buses seized in crackdown

GHAZIABAD: Nearly 1,138 autorickshaws and 28 private buses plying illegally were seized during a four-hour-long drive in the district on Monday. The drive, code-named ‘Operation Chakravyuh,’ was undertaken in Ghaziabad from 10 am to 2 pm.The maximum number of illegal autorickshaws were seized from Trans-Hindon. Many minors were also found driving autos,” SSP Vaibhav Krishna told TOI.According to the police, most private buses seized had contractual permits from the road transport authority to ply between any two stations. However, they were plying as local passenger buses within the city.The police also issued penalties on vehicles violating traffic norms during the drive. The police seized 140 autos from Indirapuram and 111 from Sahibabad area.

The seized vehicles include three-seater and seven-seater autos too.Police said the vehicle owners will be booked for violation of various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.“Many autorickshaws were running without permits. Others were found running in areas for which they did not have permit. During the drive, we found autos belonging to Delhi, Hapur and Bulandshahr plying in Ghaziabad. A large number of autos registered in Delhi were found plying in Loni area in particular. In many cases, drivers did not have licenses. Many minors were also found driving autos,” SSP Vaibhav Krishna told TOI.According to the police, most private buses seized had contractual permits from the road transport authority to ply between any two stations. However, they were plying as local passenger buses within the city.The police also issued penalties on vehicles violating traffic norms during the drive. A total number of 767 vehicles were penalised for violating various road safety norms. The total amount collected as penalty during the four-hour drive is Rs 1.04 lakh. The drive, according to police, will be undertaken from time to time to sanitise roads.
