Boy goes for swimming after school, drowns

His father Anwar, a tailor, told police that after coming from school, Arshad had gone outside to play in the afternoon. GHAZIABAD: An 11-year-old boy who had gone out to swim in a pool near his home in his school uniform was drowned on Saturday evening. The next day being a Sunday, he had not even changed his school uniform.Police said the pool Arshad had gone to is a commercial one run by a local trader. A person who coaches students at the pool found the boy floating and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.The boy has been identified as Arshad, a Class V student of Moon Star School who lived with his parents in New Mustafabad of Loni.

The cops are trying to find out why nobody spotted the boy drowning and if there was any attendant at the pool. The boy’s parents, who were frantically searching for him, came to know about his death around 7pm after a message related to Arshad’s drowning started doing the rounds on WhatsApp.Umesh Kumar Pandey, SHO, Loni police station, said, “We’re yet to receive a written complaint from the boy’s family. The body has been sent for an autopsy.” He added an inquiry was being conducted to ascertain whether the owner of the pool had obtained permission to run it or not.
