Firm cheats 2,000 of Rs 3 crore, protest at police station

GHAZIABAD: Scores of people on Friday staged a protest at Sihani Gate police station alleging that a private firm cheated more than 2,000 people of over Rs 3 crore in the name of doubling their investment in just 30 days.They alleged that the company-MMM Globe-had started a website and told the investors that their money would be invested in the share market and they would be given interest at the rate of Rs 3.3% per day.Those cheated include lawyers, private firm employees and businessmen.Nitu Singh, a lawyer and a resident of Ghukna, said: "I came in contact with the private firm's owner Nitish Alok a month ago. To check the veracity of his claims, I deposited Rs 2,000 and within 15 days, Rs 3,500 was reverted into my bank account. He asked me to invest a bigger amount for bigger profit. So I invested Rs 2.8 lakh in his company. Soon after that, he shut shop and stopped taking my calls."A similar story was narrated by Jitendra Gupta, a resident of Shahdara in Delhi and a private firm employee. "I came to know about this company through a friend who lives in Ghaziabad. There are two partners in the company-Nitish Alok and Vikrant Thakur. They had told me that our money would be given to a third party on interest," Gupta said."Besides that, money would be invested in the share market and also in the fishing trade. On this basis, I invested Rs 70,000 and also brought 50 other people to invest in the company. Altogether, Rs 9 lakh has been gobbled up by the two," he added.The protestors submitted a written complaint and gave a list of 200 people who invested their money ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2 lakh. They added that there are more than 2,000 people who have been duped by the company operating from Nandgram. Two persons have reportedly been detained by the cops. SHO, Sihani Gate, Sanjay Pandey said an inquiry is being initiated.
