The two had cut the throat of the victim with a sharp-edged weapon and threw his body in the field.Though the victim’s body was found two days after the crime, his mother came to know about it only a month later. The accused, who are now over 45 years of age, were out on bail all these years.According to sources, the murder took place on June 28, 1994. The victim, Mahipal, a daily wage labourer and a resident of Kazampur Deoli village in Bulandshahr , was murdered by his wife Chandrakali and her paramour Sukhvir with a sickle in Chamari village in Hapur “Mahipal knew about their relationship and used to frequently fight with his wife over the issue. Irritated by his meddling in their illicit relationship, Chandrakali and Sukhvir hatched a plan to kill him,” said Vidya Bhushan Sharma, additional district government counsel “To avoid being caught, the duo coaxed Mahipal to come with them to Hapur. After reaching Chamari village, they consumed alcohol together and when Mahipal got drunk, they slit his throat and threw his body in a nearby field. Later, they came back to Bulandshahr,” Sharma added.Two days later, Mahipal’s body was found by some women, who in turn informed the plot owner. Subsequently, an FIR was registered about the discovery of an unidentified body. However, Mahaipal’s mother Narayani came to know about it only a month later, Sharma said.The prosecution produced nine witnesses in the court. Mahipal’s mother Narayani too had corroborated the allegations that the accused were in an illicit relationship.Additional district judge Vandana Singh found the accused guilty of the crime on the basis of circumstantial evidence and awarded them life imprisonment.Sharma said that after Mahipal’s death, Chandrakali and Sukhvir had lived together for some years, but later separated.The accused were taken into custody on October 30, after the court found them guilty of murder and destroying evidence. The quantum of sentence was announced on Friday.Mahipal had two children with Chandrakali.
