Economic offences, cybercrimes are future challenges: Ghaziabad SSP

GHAZIABAD: The new police chief of Ghaziabad , Upendra Kumar Agarwal, said on Friday that his immediate priority would be to solve the three major robberies that rocked the city last week apart from strengthening investigations into economic offences.Agarwal, a 2005 batch IPS officer, took over as SSP on Thursday from Vaibhav Krishna, who was transferred on November 14, a few hours after robbers escaped with jewellery worth nearly Rs 2 crore at gunpoint from a store in Sahibabad.On Friday, Agarwal went to the Sahibabad jewellery store and questioned the owner and other staff. A similar robbery had taken place in a jewellery store in Govindpuram on November 7. Two days later, a 21-year-old man was shot dead when he resisted a robbery attempt on his sister near the Diamond Palace flyover in Kavi Nagar.“Our priority would be on working out these three crimes at the earliest. We have got some clues. There would also be focus on crime control to ensure similar incidents do not take place in the future. We will be keeping tabs on gangs involved in crimes like these. The morale of the police force in the district will be lifted through team work and motivation,” said Agarwal.Agarwal, who has worked with the economic offences wing of the CBI for four years, said the economic offences unit of the district police department would be strengthened. He has worked extensively in investigating the Saradha and Rose Valley scams during his tenure in the CBI.“Economic offences and cybercrime are challenging issues in the future. Important investigations into economic offences will be directly monitored. Investigating officials in economic offences will be selected on the basis of their qualifications. Officials will be trained in technical investigations. Basic training will be imparted in cybercrime and surveillance cells will be strengthened,” said Agarwal.
