Lost phone? File online complaint for cops to probe

GHAZIABAD: Lost your phone ? No need to rush to a police station to get an FIR registered. All you need to do is to fill up a form online and send it to Ghaziabad police.The cops will then try to locate the phone. But any false complaint will attract penal action, police said.To start with, the initiative has been launched in the city area.A complainant has to go to the Facebook page or Twitter handle of Ghaziabad police or its top brass to get a Google Doc link. There they can fill up the relevant details and send it online.SSP Upendra Kumar Agrawal said they came up with the idea in the wake of increasing number of phone thefts in the district.“This year, over 800 cases of mobile phone thefts and 300 cases of missing phones have been registered so far,” he said on Thursday.“Under the new initiative, the surveillance cell under the SSP office will collate the data and SP (city) Shlok Kumar would do the monitoring. Instead of going to the police station, people can directly send us the details of their mobile phones. We will run them on our system and try to locate them,” the SSP added.SP (city) Kumar said, “People who have lost their phones in any manner — snatched, stolen or misplaced — can fill up the form, and send it to us through the Google Doc link. In the form, people are required to fill basic details and how they lost their phones.”“It does not matter how old the case is. We are creating a database so that efforts can be made to recover lost phones,” he said.Police said they were trying to change the common perception that mobile phones once gone would never be found.“We have to change this mindset. We will not only give our best to locate the phones but also try to nab the thieves,” the SP (city) added.The idea was launched on November 5. And on that very day, police tracked down lost phones of 11 people.
