The land where the widening is scheduled to take place falls in an area notified as reserved forest in government records. This carriageway is being dug up to bring it to a lower gradient and make it of the same elevation as the other carriageway. Clearance is awaited from the central government,” said Singh. A report has been prepared for this project. GHAZIABAD: In an effort to curb traffic jams on the stretch of GT Road between Arthala and the newly constructed Hindon metro station, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has come up with a two-pronged strategy. The carriageway adjacent to the metro station, from Mohan Nagar towards Meerut Road, is being levelled to bring it to the same gradient as that of the other carriageway. Simultaneously, a project has also been conceived to construct a horse-shoe shaped U-turn before the Hindon bridge for vehicles travelling from Meerut Road towards Mohan Nagar to interchange carriageways. At present, these vehicles travel all the way up to Arthala and use the U-turn near the Haj House to interchange carriageways.Massive traffic jams are being reported from this stretch daily, particularly because finishing touches are underway on the metro station. A foot overbridge for this metro station has also been constructed which has threatened to obstruct free movement of heavy vehicles underneath it.“The carriageway of GT Road from Mohan Nagar to Meerut Road is at a slightly higher gradient along this stretch as compared to the reverse carriageway on the other side of the central verge. This carriageway is being dug up to bring it to a lower gradient and make it of the same elevation as the other carriageway. It will also allow free movement of large vehicles under the foot overbridge,” said GDA chief engineer VN Singh. The U-turn has been conceived in order to provide respite to those vehicles travelling towards Raj Nagar Extension using the bypass along Hindon River. These vehicles have been clogging the U-turn at Arthala where they are merging with vehicles travelling from Indirapuram towards Old Ghaziabad via the Hindon Barrage.“The road needs to be widened at this junction in order to allow construction of the U-turn on the central bridge. A report has been prepared for this project. The land where the widening is scheduled to take place falls in an area notified as reserved forest in government records. Clearance is awaited from the central government,” said Singh.
