Ghaziabad trader thrashed by sister over business rivalry, dies

GHAZIABAD: A 35-year-old trader died in Delhi’s GTB Hospital on Thursday, almost a week after being allegedly beaten up by his elder sister and her family over business rivalry.The sister and her family have been booked on a complaint by the trader’s wife. Things turned ugly when Ashok refused to move his cart.Madhu has lodged a police complaint against Pushpa and her family. He said Pushpa and her husband had recently set up a food stall in the same locality and wanted Ashok to shift his kiosk .

GHAZIABAD: A 35-year-old trader died in Delhi’s GTB Hospital on Thursday, almost a week after being allegedly beaten up by his elder sister and her family over business rivalry.The sister and her family have been booked on a complaint by the trader’s wife. Police have identified the trader as Ashok Kumar, a resident of Bur Bharat Nagar in Ghaziabad , who ran a food stall near his house. “The accused are Pushpa (Ashok’s sister), Mamta and Puja (Pushpa’s daughters), Dinesh (Pushpa’s son) and Amit (her husband),” an officer said.Ashok’s wife Madhu said her husband was attacked with rods and sticks on January 11. He was admitted to GTB Hospital and succumbed to his injuries around 11am on Thursday.Sanjeev Kumar, SHO of Vijay Nagar police station, said Ashok and his sister lived in adjacent houses. He said Pushpa and her husband had recently set up a food stall in the same locality and wanted Ashok to shift his kiosk . Things turned ugly when Ashok refused to move his cart.Madhu has lodged a police complaint against Pushpa and her family. “Ashok had been running the food stall in the locality for more than seven years. It was only recently that Pushpa and her husband set up their stall,” Kumar said.“On the basis of a complaint by Madhu, an FIR has been registered against Pushpa, Mamta, Puja, Dinesh and Amit under sections of 147 (rioting), 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC,” Kumar added.
