NEW DELHI/GHAZIABAD: Two days after a blue Wagon R, earlier used by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, was stolen from outside the Delhi Secretariat, police have found it lying abandoned near the Narender Mohan Hospital at Mohan Nagar in Ghaziabad.Police said that the vehicle was not locked and there was a sword and some documents lying in its boot. The sword has been sent for forensic examination and the car brought back to Delhi.Delhi Police spokesperson, DCP Madhur Verma said that they have prepared a sketch of the suspect and were working on some vital clues to identify him. Initial probe suggests that the thief might have been operating alone and had taken the car for a joyride. However, when the theft was reported in the media, he panicked and left the vehicle along the roadside of the hospital."The car did not have a GPS or a gear lock that made it easy for the thief to unlock it and drive away. By the time the owner realised that the vehicle was missing, he had already left the city," said DCP Verma.Following the incident, Delhi Police has appealed to the public, especially the ones using older vehicle models, to park vehicles at designated parking areas and keep at least one safety measure—a gear lock or a steering lock—installed.SSP Ghaziabad, Hari Narayan Singh, said around 6.45am they received a call by Pritam who informed them about the Wagon R lying abandoned at a service lane in Mohan Nagar area. "After it was confirmed that it was the stolen car, we towed it to the police station. We have questioned people in the neighborhood and are scanning CCTV footage for further leads," said Singh.A team led by DCP (central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa scanned through the footage of at least 18 CCTV cameras recovered from the Ring Road and the DND flyway, and was able to virtually map the route the driver had taken. Special teams were also sent to Ghaziabad and Noida to scan through the parking lots as they expected the thief to leave the car there.Apart from the sword, police also found a badminton racket, a purse and a pair of shoes perhaps belonging to AAP media convenor, Vandana, inside the car. They also found some paper ranges used by shooters with bullet holes on them inside the vehicle.A team led by SHO IP Estate Ravinder Malik is scanning through the documents recovered from the vehicle to look for clues about the thief. Sources said that thief did not touch the contents of the purse even though it was left on the dashboard. In one of the footage recovered from the Secretariat, police found that the thief was wearing a white shirt and a black trouser. They suspect him to be a resident of the Mohan Nagar and have launched a manhunt to look for similar looking people.
