CHANDIGARH: A man murdered his widowed sister following an altercation over a domestic issue in the wee hours of Wednesday. The accused, now on the run, hit the victim with a frying pan and a broken beer bottle at their house at Nonand village of Sampla block in Rohtak village. Mangal Singh continued to hit Sheela even after she had collapsed on the floor and lay there lifeless.Police registered a murder case against Mangal on the basis of a complaint by his mother Hukam Kaur. SHO Kuldeep Singh said Sheela’s body was handed over to family after a postmortem examination. He said police teams were conducting raids to arrest Mangal.Sheela was married to a man in a village in Gurugram. After husband’s death last year, she had shifted to her paternal home while her two sons continued to live with her in-laws. According to her mother, she had been undergoing treatment in PGIMR in Rohtak for the past six months.Kaur told cops that Mangal used to drink and often picked up fights with Sheela over petty issues. She said there were even times when he threatened Sheela with dire consequences. On Tuesday night, Mangal had an altercation with his wife and when Sheela tried to intervene, he picked up a fight with her too.Police said that preliminary investigations revealed that Mangal sneaked into Sheela’s room and hit her with an empty bottle of beer on the head. As the bottle broke, he started hitting her with a frying pan lying nearby. Meanwhile, villagers reached the spot and called up police.
