Gurgaon: The Millennium City celebrated International Yoga Day by holding yoga sessions at multiple locations on Thursday. In Bhondsi jail , wrestler Sushil Kumar took the centre stage and demonstrated his Yoga skills before the prison inmates.“Yoga teaches me discipline and brings positive energy,” he said, and appealed to the audience to stay away from criminal activities. Jail superintendent Jaikishan Chillar was also present.State education minister Rambilas Sharma was the chief guest at the Yoga Day celebrations in the city. Addressing a gathering of 2,000 people at the city’s Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sharma spoke extensively on Yoga as an ancient knowledge system. “Yoga has been part of the Indian culture from the times when India was a world leader,” he said, adding that Yoga binds people together.He appealed to the audience to make it a part o daily schedule, saying it has significance in “Guru Drona’s land”.Patanjali Yog samiti’s Ramesh Thakur led the Yoga celebrations in the Tau Devi Lal ground. Patanjali, along with the Ayush department of the district, played an important role in the Yoga Day preparations. A number of senior officials, including deputy commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh, additional deputy commissioner RK Singh, police commissioner KK Rao, MCG commissioner Yashpal Yadav, district education officer Premlata Yadav, district sports officer JJ Banerjee, among others took part in the early morning celebrations. Some children also performed acrobatics on the occasion. Celebrations were also held in Sohna, where local MLA Tejpal Tanwar and Sohna SDM Satish Yadav attended the day’s festivities. Various zila parishad members, sarpanches, students and villagers took part in this function, besides senior officials.
