By: Kumar MukeshHISAR: No confidence motion by two-thirds of Sirsa Municipal Council members against their chairperson Sheela Sehgal of BJP was deferred due to non-availability of SDM on Thursday. Later, 22 municipal councillors (10 out of BJP’s 15 and 12 out of 16 independents) from total 31, submitted a memorandum to DC Prabhjot Singh demanding action against SDM Amit Kumar who is yet to take charge of the post. They also demanded to convene a meeting of non-confidence motion soon.The civic body’s election was held in September 2016 and BJP councilor Sehgal from ward number 16 was elected as the chairperson. She was said to have support of local BJP leader Rahul Sethia. The councilors who have signed the motion of no confidence said that she worked in the wards of her favorite councillors only.On 19 June, 21 councilors gave a non-confidence motion communique to Sirsa DC Prabhjot Singh, who set the meeting for July 12. However, Sirsa’s SDM Rahul Hooda was on a month’s leave. For the meeting, the government gave additional charge of Sirsa to SDM Ellenabad Amit Kumar last week. However, he is yet to take the charge of this post.He was expected to take charge on Thursday and take attend the civic body meeting, but was on casual leave for the day. Now, the next date will be decided by DC soon.On Thursday, 22 councilors marked their presence and gave a memorandum to the deputy commissioner and demanding action against SDM and as soon as possible to convene a meeting. The deputy commissioner has given assurance to set the date for the no-confidence motion soon.
