No special treatment to Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Honeypreet in jails: Minister

AMBALA: Junior minister for jails Krishan Lal Panwar on Thursday said that no special treatment was being given to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and his ‘adopted daughter’ Honeypreet inside prisons. Panwar added there are other cases pending against Ram Rahim at the court, therefore it is the responsibility of the Jail Department to keep the inmate secure inside the jail premises. Panwar said the security at Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail had been tightened and nobody could enter the jail premises without proper checking and even if jail superintendent had to meet Gurmeet, he too was frisked. Panwar added Ram Rahim is also kept as other inmates, though because of his huge number of following, the Sunaria Jail officials have been ordered to take some cautionary measures while dealing with Ram Rahim, for security purposes.Nobody even from jail officials can go near Ram Rahim without passing through a security check inside the Sunaria jail. The minister listened to the problems and complaints of the general public and addressed the same to the concerned officials.When asked about the rape convict godman getting special treatment in the jail premises, Panwar added that there are no such facilities for providing any special treatment to a convict inside the state jail premises.

The minister added it was part of the duty and the procedure was followed for safety reasons.Panwar was here for a grievances committee meeting with the public, where deputy commissioner (DC) Sharandeep Kaur Brar, superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Jorwal and other senior officials were present. The minister listened to the problems and complaints of the general public and addressed the same to the concerned officials.When asked about the rape convict godman getting special treatment in the jail premises, Panwar added that there are no such facilities for providing any special treatment to a convict inside the state jail premises. Panwar added Ram Rahim is also kept as other inmates, though because of his huge number of following, the Sunaria Jail officials have been ordered to take some cautionary measures while dealing with Ram Rahim, for security purposes.Nobody even from jail officials can go near Ram Rahim without passing through a security check inside the Sunaria jail. Panwar added there are other cases pending against Ram Rahim at the court, therefore it is the responsibility of the Jail Department to keep the inmate secure inside the jail premises. Minister added whoever goes inside the Sunaria jail, either if it is me or any senior jail official, they have to go through the security checkup deployed at the jail.About Honeypreet, who is locked inside the Central Jail, Ambala , Panwar said since the time she has been taken inside, she is allowed to meet those relatives whose names were provided at that time by her and she is even meeting them. Panwar said a few days back Honeypreet has moved an application to the court that she should be allowed to talk over the phone with the relatives once a day, and the decision of the court in this regard is still awaited.
