GURUGRAM: A fitness trainer at the gym, Play Fitness, on the first floor of Eros City Square Mall in Sector 49, fell through the shaft of the building to his death on Tuesday night, while fighting with another fitness trainer, who sustained injuries and is currently under treatment at Artemis hospital.Anil (30), resident of Dera in Mehrauli and Praveen (28), resident of Akilpur village in Gurgaon, were both engaged as personal fitness trainers at the gym, located on the first floor of the building, for the past year.According to police, on Tuesday night, both trainers left the gym after finishing work at around 10pm. They climbed down the stairs to the ground floor, where they started arguing with each other, which soon turned into a scuffle. “While fighting, they hit the shaft door near the stairs, and fell into the lower basement,” said police spokesperson Subhash Bokan, adding security staff present in the basement carried them to Artemis Hospital and informed police.Anil, who received injuries in his head, was declared brought dead by doctors, while Praveen is currently under treatment. “The reason for the fight is not known, as so far we haven’t managed to record Praveen’s statement,” said Bokan, adding a case under Section 304 (culpable homicide) has been registered at Sector 50 police station. He added police has taken CCTV footage from the building in which the incident can be seen.Anil’s brother Pradeep said their family rushed to the hospital after being informed of the accident on Tuesday night itself. “CCTV footage shows four trainers, including my brother, emerging from the gym at around 10pm. They were coming down together, when Praveen started arguing with my brother,” he said, adding they started fighting after reaching the ground floor. He alleged during the scuffle, Praveen pushed his brother towards the shaft door. “The force at which my brother hit the door, made it swing open. My brother lost control and grabbed Praveen. Both fell through the shaft and hit the base of the shaft in the second basement,” he said, alleging Praveen wanted to kill his brother and should be booked for murder. He also alleged the two other trainers present stood by and made no efforts to stop the fight. In their statements before police, these trainers said they had left just before the accident. Countering this, Pradeep claimed both can be seen in the CCTV footage standing at a distance. “They should also be booked for murder,” he said.Dr Deepak Mathur, who conducted the post-mortem, said Anil had died from head injuries. “He had multiple injuries due to the assault and 20-25ft fall. Most likely, his head hit the ground first, which caused significant injuries. There also were injuries on his chest and multiple fractures,” said Mathur.
