AMBALA: Electricity supply in Ambala city hospital was disrupted from Thursday afternoon due to a short circuit in the hospital's main transformer. This led to suffering of patients and hospital staff. Local Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Aseem Goyal visited the hospital on Friday morning and issued strict guidelines to the chief medical officer (CMO), Ambala, and other hospital officials.Executive engineer, Ambala city, B S Kamboj said there was no deficiency in supply from electricity department. "The responsibility of power supply, maintenance and management in the hospital is upon its authorities. Staff from our department was sent to check the problem. They did not find any problem anywhere uptill the electricity meter."Chief medical officer, Ambala, said, "I came to know about the power cut yesterday evening and asked the principal medical officer (PMO) Poonam Jain about the same. I had also issued a letter in this regard to the concerned officials. The maintenance of the transformer and power-related issues is with hospital authorities and we had asked the electricity department for help. We have also written to the authorities to install the electricity transformer with more power as the present demand of electricity is high. The transformer is not capable of supplying power as per the demand and hence short-circuits take place."TOI tried to reach PMO Jain, but she was not available for any comments. When the Goyal reached CMO's office, it was well-lit and the fan and air-conditioner (AC) were also working, whereas the patients admitted to different wards in the hospital were suffering in the absence of electricity. Goyal instructed his security staff to switch off the lights, fan, and AC of the CMO office, till the time the power supply is not available to the patients. Goyal said the matter will be discussed with the chief minister's office. "We will not tolerate any such negligence in future," he said. Goyal has even written to Haryana health minister Anil Vij complaining against the CMO.The power supply however has been restored on Friday afternoon.
