GURUGRAM: Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation ( HSIIDC ) has sought proposals from private consultancy firms to develop the master plan for the proposed city next to Gurugram. A senior government official related to the project, under condition of anonymity, said the proposed city doesn’t actually follow any rules of urban planning. “The request for proposal (RFP) for the master plan has been floated by HSIIDC and I am not fully aware about the details. You cannot build a city and then migrate people,” the official said. “Cities across the world grow organically, and that is how they are supposed to be developed.

GURUGRAM: Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation ( HSIIDC ) has sought proposals from private consultancy firms to develop the master plan for the proposed city next to Gurugram. Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced in June this year that the government will develop a city bigger than Chandigarh within NCR.According to HSIIDC officials, a pre-proposal conference will be held this month. Proposals have to be submitted by the first week of October, after which the government will assess them and finalise one company for developing the Master Plan 2040.However, officials said a separate team is overseeing the development of the proposed city. Vivek Joshi, who has been designated by the government as the CEO for the project, said it is too premature to comment on the land and location for the city. “The request for proposal (RFP) for the master plan has been floated by HSIIDC and I am not fully aware about the details. As of now, we are still in the policy formulation stage. So, we won’t be able to comment on the specifics,” Joshi said.Sources in HSIIDC confirmed that the RFP has indeed been floated and all details are available on the HSIIDC website. “Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements, such as experience in master planning for a new town with a minimum area of 3000 hectares,” said an official in the know of the matter. The announcement for the development of the new city has not only invited criticism from the opposition parties, but people within the government have also expressed concerns. A senior government official related to the project, under condition of anonymity, said the proposed city doesn’t actually follow any rules of urban planning. “Cities across the world grow organically, and that is how they are supposed to be developed. You cannot build a city and then migrate people,” the official said.
