Chief justice asks Punjab, Haryana, UT to screen PSOs

CHANDIGARH: All the personal security officers ( PSOs ), posted with the judges of the Punjab and Haryana high court and judicial officers in Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory Chandigarh, would be screened by the concerned state police. The judicial officers below additional sessions judges have been provided with one gunman and the judicial officers of the additional sessions judge and the sessions judges have been provided with two guards. The list should contain their name and date and period of posting with the concerned judge or judicial officer. The decision has come in the wake of a recent incident in which a PSO, attached to an additional sessions judge in Gurgaon, shot at the judge’s wife and son. It has also been decided to provide training to the PSOs in relation to their role and duties.

CHANDIGARH: All the personal security officers ( PSOs ), posted with the judges of the Punjab and Haryana high court and judicial officers in Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory Chandigarh, would be screened by the concerned state police. The decision has come in the wake of a recent incident in which a PSO, attached to an additional sessions judge in Gurgaon, shot at the judge’s wife and son. His wife died while the son is still struggling for life in a private hospital in Gurgaon.A decision regarding screening of all the PSOs was taken in a high-level meeting held on Monday in the high court. The meeting was headed by the Chief Justice Krishan Murari and attended by the home secretaries and DGPs of both states and UT Chandigarh to discuss the steps for the prevention of such incidents in the future.Sources confirmed TOI that the Chief Justice asked both senior officers for screening of all the PSOs attached with the judges. It has also been decided to provide training to the PSOs in relation to their role and duties. Directions were also issued for sensitive handling of policemen suffering from depression.The meeting was held for around one and half hours. The judicial officers below additional sessions judges have been provided with one gunman and the judicial officers of the additional sessions judge and the sessions judges have been provided with two guards. Similarly, a high court judge has been provided two-three guards derived from the police of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh.Sources also confirmed that the Haryana police has already started scrutinizing the record of all the PSOs posted with the members of Haryana judicial officers and the judges of high court.As per the information, the state police department has directed the field staff to prepare the list of judges of the high court and the judicial officers who have been provided security guards by the Haryana police. The list should contain their name and date and period of posting with the concerned judge or judicial officer.
