GURUGRAM: Farmers in Haryana will soon be offered plots double the size of their agricultural land that is to be acquired by the state government for infrastructure projects. This was announced by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar at an affordable housing summit in Gurugram on Friday.Admitting that land acquisition was the biggest hurdle the state government faced in its four years in power, Khattar said, “This is a time-consuming process. Despite offering an equal size of floor area ratio ( FAR ), many farmers weren’t keen on parting with their land. And that held up many infrastructure projects.”“So we hope that the offer of double the floor area ratio to farmers in lieu of their agricultural plots will help resolve the delay in land acquisition for the projects across the state,” Khattar said at the summit organised by National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO).In another boost to infrastructural development, the CM said that his government will develop five new cities along with the 185km-long Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway. “Each city will be planned in a minimum area of 5,000 hectare and will be connected to all expressways. This way, an area of 25,000 hectare is slated to be developed as an economic hub in the future,” he said.Simultaneously, the transit-oriented urban development will be extended for three months in the state. This will help realtors in extending their licences. Also, the government will open the group housing window next week. “The window will remain open for 60 days during which licences for commercial and residential group housing projects will be issued,” the CM said.
