Finally, help pours for injured diver

KURUKSHETRA: An injured Sikh diver , who had volunteered his services to the government, has received nearly Rs 6.2 lakh towards his treatment from the Kurukshetra district administration, NRIs, social workers and a few other outfits.On October 23, when Pargat and his wife were returning home to Dabkheri village in Kurukshetra, a speeding car hit his motorcycle and fled from the spot, leaving both of them injured. He also got Rs 50,000 from Harjit Singh of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), a resident of Acchan Pur village in Karnal Apart from that, Pargat received Rs 20,000 from Narender Singh of Kurukshetra University, Rs 11,000 from a social outfit in Jind , Rs 11,000 from Rajesh Kumar, a police official and Rs 10,000 by Sandeep from Sirsawan. There were notable contributions from Shahbad Vikas Manch Sanstha, Giani Sahib Singh Markanda, Palwinder Singh of Assandh, Pawan Jindal and deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Gurmail Singh.Kurukshetra deputy commissioner S S Phulia said, “I had spoken to the doctors at the hospital where Pargat was admitted and through Red Cross secretary Rajeev Malik we have helped him with Rs 21,000.” The couple was admitted to a private hospital in Kurukshetra from where both were discharged on November 6.Speaking to TOI, Pargat said, “I am very thankful to Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and all the Sikh sangat (community) worldwide, which have helped me during my hour of need.”So far, he has received nearly Rs 4 lakh from NRIs living in Australia, Canada, Germany, and New Zealand and people from Punjab.
