Gurgaon: The route for the Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) has been altered. “Since RRTS will connect Manesar to Bawal, the MRTS route appeared redundant. Hence, the alignment was changed,” said the source.MRTS is being developed by Haryana State Industry and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) and Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC). There is also a lack of clarity on who will fund the stretch between Huda City Centre and Subhash Chowk — HSIIDC or the state government. Gurgaon: The route for the Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) has been altered. The metro route, which was earlier going up to Bawal, will now terminate at Pachgaon Chowk in Manesar, said sources in the know of the matter.According to the sources, authorities decided to shorten the metro route, as the rail system, Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), will go through Bawal before meeting MRTS at Pachgaon Chowk. HSIIDC officials could not be reached for their comment on the development. The MRTS project was to be developed in two phases, with the Rs 9,000 crore, 30km-link between Huda City Centre and Manesar in Phase 1, and the link connecting Manesar and Bawal in Phase 2.Given that the earlier proposed route of MRTS was similar to the RRTS route between Manesar and Bawal, concerns had always remained on the viability of two metro links on the same route.Officials had earlier dismissed all concerns about the viability of two links on the same route, claiming that the high speed rail would have fewer stops, with MRTS expected to have more stops and mainly focus on connecting the industrial areas of Manesar and Bawal. The much-delayed MRTS was earlier slated to be launched in September 2017. Sources said there is still no clarity on when the project would finally take-off. A part of the project is to be funded by Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), but after almost two years of talks between the two agencies, sources said there is no substantial conclusion as yet. There is also a lack of clarity on who will fund the stretch between Huda City Centre and Subhash Chowk — HSIIDC or the state government.
