MCG takeover delay holding up road repairs, say Sushant Lok 1 residents

GURUGRAM: Residents of Sushant Lok 1 have accused the MCG of delaying the takeover of their township, which they say is holding up essential road repair work.Though the civic body, which has already taken over the responsibility of water supply to the colony’s households, says it could wrap up the complete takeover process by this month-end, residents claim given the present condition, the pothole-riddled roads cannot take any further load and may completely wear out by the time MCG takes charge.TOI visited Block C of Sushant Lok 1 on Friday and found a majority of roads are in a deplorable condition. “MCG was supposed to repair the roads after the takeover was complete. But there’s no complete takeover of our township yet. We are eager for that to take place,” said Ankur, a resident.“There are so many potholes and large craters on the colony roads. Plus, this year’s monsoon played havoc on the internal roads,” said Neelu Sharma, who heads Resid-ents United that takes cares of day-to-day affairs in the absence of a proper RWA.“Due to digging by the zero-outage grid project team, roads at various places in the area have caved in. Last week, a lady fell into one such ditch,” she added.When contacted, senior MCG officials said the “takeover is nearing completion”.“All the modalities have been worked out. It might happen by the end of this month,” an official said.
