However, sources said it is being funded under the central government’s Bharatmala Pariyojna (scheme), which was passed by the Union cabinet last year and aims to build 50,000km of highways across the country.GMDA officials said the project is likely to start in the coming months, but NHAI alone has an idea about the start and end dates. Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced this project on several earlier occasions, including at a rally in Pataudi earlier this year. That it would be a highway was decided at a meeting between the central transport minister and state ministers in March this year, when the BJP government had declared around a dozen roads in Haryana as national highways. Afterwards, the state public works department had sent a DPR for the project to the Union transport ministry.Officials said the existing Gurugram-Rewari expressway narrows down at several points, causing bottlenecks.Once functional, the new road is expected to cut down the congestion, and offer an alternative route to Manesar for residents of new sectors off Dwarka Expressway.
