Candidate's hubby gets into fight at Hisar polling booth

HISAR: Except for a fight breaking out at a polling booth , voting for the Hisar municipal corporation elections ended peacefully here on Sunday.A turnout of 62.6% was recorded in the city. A candidate for the councillor's post in Ward 5 alleged that votes had been purchased in a polling booth of Bhatia Dharamsala. Visiting booths on the day of polling, Congress-supported mayoral candidate Rekha Eran claimed that the voters' list distributed to candidates was different from the list placed at polling stations. The fight broke out after the husband of a candidate for Ward 13 councillor's post got into an argument with the supporters of a rival. She claimed that this had been done to benefit candidates belonging to the ruling party.

The fight broke out after the husband of a candidate for Ward 13 councillor's post got into an argument with the supporters of a rival. Police had to use force to break the fight. Also, eVMs of two booths had to be changed as they malfunctioned and the battery of another machine had to be replaced.Sanjay Dalmia, husband of candidate Jyoti Dalmia, alleged that two booths were set up at the community centre in Urban Estate. When he went to cast his vote in the afternoon, he came to know that someone had already voted on his, and his father and mother's behalf.He alleged that many supporters of the other candidate, Amita, were standing there. When he confronted the, police used force against him and his supporters. Many fake votes were cast due to the police's involvement, Sanjay claimed. Election returning officer and additional deputy commissioner A S Mann said there were complaints of machines malfunctioning in three places.In Hisar, there were a total of 108 candidates for the post of councillor in 20 wards and 22 candidates for the mayor's post. A candidate for the councillor's post in Ward 5 alleged that votes had been purchased in a polling booth of Bhatia Dharamsala. However, before anything could get out of hand, police controlled the siuation. Visiting booths on the day of polling, Congress-supported mayoral candidate Rekha Eran claimed that the voters' list distributed to candidates was different from the list placed at polling stations. She claimed that this had been done to benefit candidates belonging to the ruling party. An independent candidate in Hisar, Arvind Kharinta, demanded the cancellation of the candidature of the BJP candidate from the city, claiming that changes in the one-settlement scheme of Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), announced by the CM, were a violation of the model code of conduct.
