Inter-caste marriage: 11 booked for ordering eviction of newlywed’s kin

A police complaint was filed but the panchayat had worked out a compromise.

HISAR: Hisar Police on Thursday registered a criminal case against 11members of a village committee, including a representative of the Prabhuwala village sarpanch , for announcing the eviction of the family members of a man who married a woman from the same village.Station house officer of Ukalana police station said the case was registered on the complaint of Sohan Lal, the groom’s father, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code . He said among those booked are sarpanch’s representative Parminder Singh, local Congress leader Thakur Balbir Ajmera and labourers’ leader Rajkumar Bedi among others.The complainant’s son had eloped with a 24-year-old scheduled caste woman on December 21 and married her later.
