In-laws booked for causing miscarriage without consent, cops suspect false charges

AMBALA: The district police on the complaint Vidha Devi resident of Farakpur, Yamunanagar have booked her husband Sunny, mother-in-law Usha, and sister-in-law Pooja residents Krishna Colony, Ambala for allegedly causing miscarriage without her consent after giving her some pills.Earlier the woman gave birth to a girl child, this was her second pregnancy, and she alleged that her in-laws forcibly fed her some pills for aborting the foetus.

AMBALA: The district police on the complaint Vidha Devi resident of Farakpur, Yamunanagar have booked her husband Sunny, mother-in-law Usha, and sister-in-law Pooja residents Krishna Colony, Ambala for allegedly causing miscarriage without her consent after giving her some pills.Earlier the woman gave birth to a girl child, this was her second pregnancy, and she alleged that her in-laws forcibly fed her some pills for aborting the foetus. On the other side, the cops suspect the case to be false as the two families developed some altercations nearly six months ago and earlier some Panchayats were also held to solve their matters.Vidha said, “Presently I am staying at my maternal house in Farakpur along with my daughter (1.5) after facing continuous harassment from the in-laws.”As per the information, Vidha and Sunny got married on July 15, 2016, and on August 7, 2017, she gave birth to her first girl child.On January 19, in the First Information Report (FIR) to Ambala police, Vidha stated, “My husband and in-laws were not happy with the birth of the first girl child and for the second time I got pregnant nearly two months ago. I informed my husband about the pregnancy about 10-15 days ago, who replied that I do not want the child at this moment. On January 11, in the night my in-laws forcibly made me take abortion pills while my sister-in-law Pooja held my arms, mother-in-law Usha held my legs, and my husband Sunny forcibly put the pills inside my mouth and made me drink water.On the next day, my health started to worsen and on January 12, my husband dropped me at my maternal house in Farakpur. On January 15, my health deteriorated and my parents took me to Jagadhri Civil Hospital, where after treatment my child was aborted.”Investigation officer on condition of anonymity said, “As of now, we have registered the case under section 313 (causing miscarriage without consent) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) but we have suspicion in this case as the two families developed some altercations nearly six months ago and since then their matters were also solved by the Panchayats. Also the statements of the woman seems suspicious, at this moment, we cannot say anything. We are waiting for some medical reports from the Jagadhri hospital following which further action would be taken.
