Search engine bait used to hoodwink eatery owner

On Friday, Ashna Gandhi told police that around a week ago, she called on the mobile number which she got from the website of the search services company.“The person who received my call told me that I have to pay Rs 200 for registration and gave me a link—www.rbipaymentclaim.in — to pay the amount either by debit or credit card,” the woman explained in her complaint.“Later, I paid Rs 200 via my Axis Bank credit card but to my shock, Rs 48,596 got deducted and transferred to an account with the name of Digital Gold India. I immediately called up the customer care of the bank and asked them to cancel the transaction request but they failed to help me. When I contacted the person to whom I transferred the amount, he said that he did not receive any amount adding that the account of Digital Gold India company did not belong to them. Finally, I realised that I was duped,” Gandhi added .The complainant also handed over the two mobile numbers on which she contacted the caller.Police have put the numbers on surveillance to nab the accused. An FIR has been registered against the accused under IPC Section 420 (cheating) and Section 66 C of the Information Technology Act at Sector 56 police station.“We are investigating the case from angles and trying to identify the accused using the mobile numbers. He will be arrested soon,” said Pradeep Kumar , the SHO of Sector 56 police station.
