Retired army serviceman crushed to death by Haryana Roadways bus, 108 fails to respond

AMBALA: A 75-year-old retired army serviceman was crushed to death by a Haryana Roadways bus on Ambala-Chandigarh road on Monday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Om Prakash , a resident of Baldev Nagar. On the complaint of his grandson Mohit, the district police have registered a case of death by negligence under Section 279 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code According to sources, the deceased Om Prakash was coming from Ambala Cantonment side on his bicycle and when he reached near Baldev Nagar on Ambala-Chandigarh road, a Haryana Roadways bus hit him and fled the spot.Mohit stated in the FIR, “I was going with my grandfather on my separate bicycle and a Haryana Roadways bus crushed him from behind. The driver stopped the bus at some distance and after seeing the injuries of my grandfather he escaped leaving us helpless." The registration number of the bus is HR37C6866, he noted.Nikhil, who rushed the injured Om Prakash to the hospital told TOI, “I spotted the injured person on the road and I immediately called the 108 emergency number and Ambulance control room at 7027846102 but nobody responded the calls for more than 20 minutes. I called some of my colleagues from nearby office and then we rushed the injured to Ambala City Civil Hospital in our car where he succumbed to his injuries. When I went to check the Ambulance control room, the workers were having a party inside the office and I had a heated argument with them over their negligent behaviour.”SHO Baldev Nagar said, “The number of the bus has been noted and the driver's arrest is pending. About the ambulance services, I do not have any information.”TOI tried to contact Ambala civil surgeon, but he could not be reached.
