NHM staffers to go on hunger strike

GURUGRAM: The national health mission ( NHM workers have decided to extend their strike by three more days to mark their protest. For the next 72 hours, the workers will be on hunger strike at the Civil Hospital. Around 400 of the 665 NHM workers in Gurugram are appointed at these primary health centres. On Monday, the workers gave a memorandum for the same to Dr MP Singh, medical officer in Gurugram.The NHM workers further intensified the protest after around 4,000 workers from Haryana, including 629 from Gurugram, were terminated by the health department.“If the government doesn’t give in to our demands, we will go on an indefinite hunger strike from Friday. If something happens to an on-strike worker, the government will be responsible for the same,” said Hariraj, state general secretary, NHM.The workers across the state have decided to donate their one-day wage to the martyr’s fund who were killed in the Pulwama attack.Meanwhile, around 18 urban and eight rural primary health centres have been non-operational due to the strike.
