Sugar mill owner told to clear dues of farmers by May 15

AMBALA: Naraingarh sugar mill owner Rahul Anand has been instructed to clear all the payments of the sugarcane farmers by May 15. This was decided during a meeting called by the Haryana cane commissioner Ajit Balaji Joshi. During that meeting the cane commissioner had instructed the mill owner to remain present on Friday’s meeting with all relevant documents related to the accounts. The government has also approved the subsidy of Rs 14.5 crore which would be released to the farmers. The government is enssuring that all payments be made to farmers and for that they have been given a month’s time after the mill has been instructed to work upto April 15.

As per officials the mill would continue its operations up to April 15.Naraingarh sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Aditi told TOI, “During the meeting held on Friday, the mill management told their plan that how they intend to clear the payments of the farmers.The government has instructed the mill owner to clear the payments so that the dues do not extend to the next season. The government is enssuring that all payments be made to farmers and for that they have been given a month’s time after the mill has been instructed to work upto April 15. The government would also see if the mill needs any sought of assistance or loans in releasing the payments.”The SDM said, “So far the mill has released payments of nearly Rs 60 crore and still an amount of Rs 100 crore was outstanding. The government has also approved the subsidy of Rs 14.5 crore which would be released to the farmers. The mill owner has to release an amount of Rs 1 crore daily.’’ Ambala Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) (Haryana) president Malkiat Singh Sahibpura who was present in the meeting said, ``The cane commissioner has assured that the mill would be clearing payments by May 15. Some officials from the HARCO (Haryana State Co-Operative Apex Bank Limited) Bank were also present in the meeting.”Prior to this a meeting was held between the cane commissioner, sugar mill owner Rahul Anand, Naraingarh SDM Aditi, BKU (Haryana) state president Gurnam Singh Charuni, and Ambala district president of BKU (Haryana) Sahibpura at Krishi Bhawanon March 19. During that meeting the cane commissioner had instructed the mill owner to remain present on Friday’s meeting with all relevant documents related to the accounts.
