A 35-year-old man allegedly stabbed his wife multiple times before hanging himself to death on Tuesday morning in his rented house in Behrampur village His injured wife is out of danger now, according to doctors. Police said that the deceased was addicted to alcohol and used to harass his wife, adding that the incident was a fall out of domestic discord.An FIR was registered against him and police handed over the body to his family after a post-mortem.
Prabir Sahu and his wife Gauri (34), both from West Bengal, were living as tenants in Behrampur village for the past few years, according to Gurugram police.Prabir used to clean cars and his wife worked as a domestic help. They got married around 14 years ago after the death of Gauri’s first husband . Her two children from the previous marriage live in West Bengal. Around 6.45am on Tuesday, Prabir returned home after finishing work.He was in an inebriated state and an argument broke out between the couple.
Prabir obtained a kitchen knife and stabbed Gauri four to five times on her shoulder, stomach, hands and face.Gauri, however, managed to free herself from his clutches and ran outside the house. Following this, Prabir locked himself inside the room. The neighbours rushed Gauri to the General Hospital in Civil Lines area and informed the police.
A police team reached the house and forced the door open only to find Prabir hanging from the ceiling fan. He was rushed to a hospital but doctors declared him “brought dead”.Gauri, meanwhile, was referred to Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital for treatment and was discharged on Tuesday afternoon. “He used to thrash me in an inebriated state but it went too far this time. He stabbed me with a knife, repeatedly. I am shocked to know that he committed suicide. I have nothing more to say. I want to return to my children,” she told police.
According to her complaint, an FIR was registered against Prabir under sections 323 (causing hurt), 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapon), 307 (murder attempt) of the IPC at the Sector 65 police station.“The accused was scared and locked himself inside the room and then took the extreme step. His wife is out of danger but still under treatment at home,” said ASI Fateh Singh, the investigating officer in the case.
