Caught in snarls, Heritage City seeks emergency gate

  • | Thursday | 29th June, 2017

The emergency gate will give us required access to NH-8 in an emergency situation, like fire, medical emergency or a natural disaster," said Ashok Srivastava, president of Heritage City Residents' Welfare Association. "Spread across an area of 24-acres, Heritage City is one of the oldest residential societies on MG Road. ""We request Huda to immediate give an approval for an emergency gate. "Ever since the Metro station came up on MG Road, our lives have become difficult. However, ambulance took one hour to reach the society as there was a massive traffic right in front of the main entry gate.

GURUGRAM: Residents of the Heritage City , a housing society on MG Road , on Wednesday wrote to Huda , demanding an immediate approval for an emergency exit gate which can be used if the service lanes on the Mall Mile are clogged.Even though the residents have been demanding an emergency gate for the last seven years, they have now expressed major concern as the absence of such an exit recently led to the death of a 64-year-old resident in the society.Nirmal Batra, who lost her husband, said, "He was a heart patient. It was in evening when he suffered a cardiac arrest. We called an ambulance from Fortis hospital, which is just 1.5 kilometres away, from the society. However, ambulance took one hour to reach the society as there was a massive traffic right in front of the main entry gate. I lost my husband, but I don't want anyone else to suffer.""We request Huda to immediate give an approval for an emergency gate. As our society is situated adjacent to MG Road Metro station and popular shopping malls, the main gate (which is used for both entry and exit) has become a choking point for traffic. The emergency gate will give us required access to NH-8 in an emergency situation, like fire, medical emergency or a natural disaster," said Ashok Srivastava, president of Heritage City Residents' Welfare Association. According to residents, it takes 20 minutes to enter or exit from the society during peak hours. "Ever since the Metro station came up on MG Road, our lives have become difficult. We are only demanding an emergency gate so that no untoward incident takes place in the society," said Captain Amarveer Saran, another resident. The residents have also demanded better traffic management and police patrolling on MG Road. "We request the traffic police to deploy more cops on the road so as to handle traffic situation, particularly during peak hours. Besides, MCG should look into the issues relating to encroachment of service lanes right outside our gate," said D. Saran, another resident. When contacted, an official of Huda said, "As there is a colony on the NH-8 side of the society, we need to take an approval from the higher authorities in Chandigarh. Also, it is a technical matter and might need involvement of the town and country planning department."Spread across an area of 24-acres, Heritage City is one of the oldest residential societies on MG Road. The society has 49 towers. Those living in the farthest tower (Tower no. 49) have to travel 1.5 kilometres to reach the entry gate of the society. 726 families live in the society and 40% are senior citizens.
