Veterans seek action against vandals, want Rezang La war memorial repaired

GURUGRAM: A day after Rezang La war memorial was desecrated by miscreants, members of Martyrs ' Family Welfare Foundation, including war veterans and ex-defence officials, held a protest on Vjay Diwas, which is observed on July 26 to mark the Indian Army's Kargil triumph.As many as 75 former defence officials and ex-servicemen gathered at the war memorial in Palam Vihar on Wednesday morning. Deputy commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh has asked Huda to carry out repair of the memorial.Bulbs, flood lights, stone benches and power cables at the memorial had been damaged by vandals. Acting on the complaint filed by Colonel (retd) Mahabir Singh, an FIR has been registered against unidentified accused under sections 427 (causing damage) of IPC and under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act."We are trying to identify the accused. The accused will be arrested soon," said inspector Praveen Malik, SHO, Palam Vihar police station.
