The relatives protested at the hospital on Wednesday afternoon, following which the matter was reported to the police.Prateek, a class 6 student at The Holy Kingdom Public School , lived with his parents and two elder sisters in Basai village. The child was admitted to high-dependency ward where he was treated by Dr Ajay Mehta and Dr Mohindra Minocha, the pediatricians at the hospital.Prateek's mother Nirmal stayed back at the hospital with him. At around 3am, she called up her husband Ganga Vishnu Kumar and told him that the boy is feeling a little uneasy and wanted to speak to his father. The father and other relatives rushed to the hospital and reached there around 4am."Prateek was uneasy with the drips the hospital was giving. He chatted with me and I gave him water to drink. Then we asked the staff to attend him and do something about the needle as it was irritating him. They gave him an injection saying that it will help the boy. Instead, my son died within 10 minutes of it," said a teary-eyed Ganga-Vishnu Kumar, who is employed with Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The child was shifted to the ICU after the family complained of Prateek's discomfort. The family alleged that the injection was administered by a compounder in the ICU. The unit incharge was Dr Vishal. "When his condition deteriorated, we asked for a doctor, but the hospital staff told us that the doctor wont see him before 10am," alleged Kumar.Though the hospital tried chest compression to revive the child, but the efforts proved futile and Prateek was declared dead at 5:15am.The apathy by the hospital didn't end here. As if adding to the misery, the hospital made changes to the prescriptions while preparing the final report. The hospital, strike off the name of the injection that was administered to the child, and wrote another injection there. They then handed over the revised papers to the grieving parent. After this, the family lost their patience. They started protesting at the hospital at around 12:30pm.
