The event - which saw participation from some of the country's top professionals, as well as talented amateurs - was held under the aegis of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, the country's top governing body for motorsport. Spread over three days - from December 15 to 17 - the event had races in Championship (professional) and Non-Championship (amateur) categories, within which there were separate classes based on engine capacity and car type.(BCCL/ Ajay Kumar Gautam"The event was quite good and it is heartening to see Gurgaon host an event of this magnitude. I hope we have more such racing events around the year in the city so that more enthusiasts can start racing in a controlled and safe environment," said Gurgaon-based rally champion Bani Yadav . The weekend was a double bonanza for Bani. Not only did she win the Maruti Cup (a competition featuring Maruti cars and both professional and amateur drivers), she also won the Non-modified (women's) Championship category. To add to it, her son Arjun Rao, who was the youngest entrant at 18, won the Championship (over 1650 cc) category, beating several seasoned drivers on his way. Visibly surprised by his feat, Arjun said, "I was just hoping to come here, race with the best of the lot and learn from them. Most drivers spoke to me after the race and gave me tips and how to improve my racing. I have a long way to go and such results will only boost my confidence."(BCCL/ Ajay Kumar GautamBani YadavA lot of first-timers also tried their hand at racing in the event. In fact, the response from the women drivers of NCR was so high that organizers had to create a special category for amateur women. Dwarka resident Anu Aggarwal participated in the race for the first time ever. She later told us, "It was an amazing experience for me. Considering I only started training and learning how to race in July, I wasn't expecting to do this well but I managed to hold my own against some seasoned professional drivers and even beat some of them. That made me feel more confident about it."(BCCL/ Ajay Kumar GautamApart from professional rallyists and drivers, many amateurs also tried their hand at racing
